What is The Human Project?
The Human Project is my way of using photojournalism to dignify and humanize areas of the world experiencing great poverty, disease, war, etc. It started with my trip to Kampala, Uganda in December 2008 but continues in my return to Uganda as well as my first trip to Kigali, Rwanda in 2010.
Who is behind THP?
Me-- Sarah Link. I'm a 21 year old journalism student at The University of Kansas. But I have an army of people behind me who have supported what I've been doing for years (namely my friends, family, and Christ Church Anglican of Kansas City.)
How will THP make any sort of difference in the world?
Honestly, I don't know if it will. But I know it will make differences in the lives of the people it directly benefits.
Did you steal the name The Human Project from the movie Children of Men?
Umm yes. Well, I just say that I'm borrowing it. I loved the name and the elusive group from the movie. But if THP continues to grow and I need to license it, I'll probably be forced to give the name back (hence the borrowing. :)
Is THP just your photography?
It started that way. However it's growing to encompass more art forms. My boyfriend is a great artist and made a stencil of one of my favorite photos from the trip and screen-printed tee-shirts and bags with it which we sold to raise money for a family in Uganda. Also, I going to begin making pillows, bags, and other things from Ugandan and Zambian fabrics I have and selling those on an Etsy store I'm creating. There will also be pottery from my extremely talented boyfriend up for sale.
What is the goal of THP?
To open people's eyes to things typically overlooked.
Where can I see your pictures from Kampala?
